85 ÅR SIDEN LOFOTRAIDET – OPERATION CLAYMORE – MINNEMARKERING 2026
Forsvaret vil i samarbeid med lokale ordførere, lokale veteranforeninger, Britiske Royal Marines, og Lofoten krigsminnemuseum invitere alle til å delta på minnemarkeringer og aktiviteter i forbindelse med at det er 85 år siden raidet «Operation Claymore» ble gjennomført – mot de tyske okkupasjonsstyrkene i Svolvær, Brettesnes, Henningsvær og Stamsund.

Dagen markeres med kransenedleggelser og appeller, på minnebautaer over falne fra andre verdenskrig ved Stamsund kirke og Svolvær kirke.

Kransenedleggingene etterfølges av et åpent arrangement på kvelden med historisk tilbakeblikk på Thon hotell Svolvær:

Her vil William Hakvaag fra Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum ha historisk foredrag, med mye bilder – hvor han går igjennom hendelsene 4.mars 1941 og konsekvensene av disse.

Deretter vil Forsvarets sjefssersjant Rune Wenneberg følge opp med foredrag som knytter hendelsene 4.mars 1941 opp mot dagens situasjon.

Klokken 1400: Kransenedlegging minnebauta ved Stamsund kirke.

Klokken 1700: Kransenedlegging minnebauta ved Svolvær kirke.

Klokken 1800: Åpent arrangement i regi av Heimevernets innsatsstyrke Claymore, på Thon hotell Svolvær, til minne om hendelsene 4.mars 1941, og de påfølgende lokale konsekvensene, og til minne om den innsats de som dro med over til Storbritannia bidro med i den videre motstandskampen.

Heimevernets innsatsstyrke Claymore inviterer, på vegne av Forsvaret, alle til å overvære markeringene – både i Stamsund, Svolvær og på Thon hotell Svolvær.

Dette for å hedre den innsats som Britiske og Norske marine- og spesialstyrker la ned denne dagen, og den innsats og offer som ble gjort i løpet av krigen av de over 300 frivillige fra Lofoten, som ble med spesialstyrkene tilbake til Storbritannia.

85 YEARS SINCE THE LOFOTEN RAID – OPERATION CLAYMORE – COMMEMORATION 2026

In cooperation with local mayors, local veterans’ associations, the British Royal Marines, and the Lofoten War Memorial Museum, the Norwegian Armed Forces invite everyone to take part in commemorative events and activities marking the 85th anniversary of the raid “Operation Claymore,” carried out against the German occupation forces in Svolvær, Brettesnes, Henningsvær, and Stamsund.

The day will be marked by wreath-laying ceremonies and speeches at memorial monuments honoring those who fell during the Second World War, at Stamsund Church and Svolvær Church.

The wreath-laying ceremonies will be followed in the evening by an open event featuring a historical retrospective at Thon Hotel Svolvær:

William Hakvaag from the Lofoten War Memorial Museum will give a historical lecture, with extensive photographic material, reviewing the events of March 4, 1941, and their consequences.

Following this, Sergeant Major of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Rune Wenneberg, will give a lecture linking the events of March 4, 1941, to the present-day situation.

14:00 – Wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial monument at Stamsund Church.
The Mayor of Vestvågøy, Lofoten House of Veterans, the Royal Marines, and the Home Guard Rapid Reaction Force Claymore will conduct the ceremony.

17:00 – Wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial monument at Svolvær Church.
The Mayor of Vågan, Lofoten House of Veterans, the Royal Marines, and the Home Guard Rapid Reaction Force Claymore will conduct the ceremony.

18:00 – Open commemorative event hosted by the Home Guard Rapid Reaction Force Claymore at Thon Hotel Svolvær, in memory of the events of March 4, 1941, the subsequent local consequences, and in honor of the contribution made by those who traveled to Great Britain and took part in the continued resistance effort.

On behalf of the Norwegian Armed Forces, the Home Guard Rapid Reaction Force Claymore invites everyone to attend the commemorations — in Stamsund, Svolvær, and at Thon Hotel Svolvær.

This is to honor the efforts of British and Norwegian naval and special forces on that day, as well as the dedication and sacrifice made during the war by the more than 300 volunteers from Lofoten who accompanied the special forces back to Great Britain.
