As a driver, you are required to have knowledge of traffic and parking regulations or acquire such knowledge. You also have a strict duty of care. There is no basis for complaint if you misunderstood a sign or mistakenly believed your vehicle was legally parked.

Fines
A fine may be issued due to: 1) Violations of traffic regulations 2) Violations of parking regulations Below are some key traffic and parking regulations to keep in mind.
The fine for traffic violations is NOK 900. Parking violation fines range from NOK 330 to NOK 990, depending on the specific offense.
Complaints
If you disagree with the fine, you may file a complaint either by using the QR code provided on the fine (yellow notice) or by visiting our complaints website. On the website, you will find further details, including photographic documentation of the violation.
Certain parking violations cannot be overturned, including:
- Failure to display a valid ticket (where required)
- Lack of electronic registration
- Incorrect license plate number
- Parking outside designated spaces
A decision on your appeal will be provided within three weeks.
Payment of Fines
Fines can be paid via bank transfer or in person using cash or card at the Vågan Municipality Town Hall (Storgata 29, 8300 Svolvær). Unfortunately, we do not have any other options for card payment.
